Composer’s Voice Feature

A recent episode of Composer’s Voice featured my music played by Miolina and Craig Hultgren. The half-hour show was produced by Rob Voisey and aired this weekend on Manhattan Neightborhood Network’s Lifestyle channel. If you missed the broadcast you can see the episode on YouTube or Facebook.

The video includes an excerpt from A Long Line of Clouds Just Above the Trees (2022) for violin duo and live electronics performed by Miolina: Lynn Bechtold (violin) and Mioi Takeda (violin). We received support for the project from the Collaborative Arts Research Initiative (CARI) at the University of Alabama. We workshopped the piece during a Summer 2021 residency at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute in New Hampshire.

The episode concludes with a complete performance of Snakeskin (Verso) (2019) for solo cello and live electronics performed by Craig Hultgren (ecello).

Half at Bradley

Half Premonitions of the Moon, the collaborative piece Sarah Bryant and I created, is included in the 38th Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition opening tomorrow in Peoria, Illinois. The exhibit is the second-longest running juried print and drawing competition in the US. Tyanna J. Buie juried this year’s exhibition which runs until March 31, 2023.

Hultgren in Tuscaloosa

I’m so pleased to have Craig Hultgren visit Tuscaloosa during his southern tour. He’ll be working with Moises Molina‘s cello students, meeting with New College students, and performing a concert that includes my piece Snakeskin (verso) for e-cello and electronics.

Tracing Thin Air Installation

The collaborative Tracing Thin Air project I’ve been making with Karen Brummund and Allison Grant culminates in a one-night only video and sound installation on Friday.

For this part of the project I’ve created a sound installation driven by air quality data that we collected over the last 9 months using Purple Air sensors. I sonify the data using a variety of sound generating and audio processing devices built with Cycling ’74’s Max.

It’s been fun digging into Max’s multichannel mc. system, especially in combination with the gen~ suite of objects. Graham Wakefield & Gregory Taylor’s excellent book Generating Sound & Organizing Time has been a particularly timely (hah!) and useful resource. Highly recommended.
