Das Lied von der Erdbeeren (The Song of the Strawberries) is a sound sculpture that converts the trickle of electricity present in a bowl of strawberries into a signal that controls the playback of the opening notes of Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). The sound shifts subtly over time as the charge in the strawberries slowly drains.
Sensor data is managed by an Arduino microcontroller. The audio is produced using a granular synthesis algorithm programmed in Cycling ’74’s Max.
